Walking for the pleasure and enjoyment of the countryside.
Our walks are normally circular & start at 10.00 am. Monday walks are usually about 2 hours and around 4 miles. Sunday walks may be a bit longer at 5-6 miles.

Well behaved dogs, on a short lead are welcome, unless stated otherwise in the walk description.

JUNE 2023

Sunday 4th June –  Meet at 10am at  the public car park next to Methodist church.
This is about a 6 mile circular walk from Wilstead towards Haynes offering good views across the Bedfordshire countryside. There is one hill, but mostly on easy paths around fields. Coffee/ drinks can be obtained at end of walk at The Wool Pack. Postcode: MK45 3DY. LEADERS: Brenda & Judith. Mob: 07934 240325.

Monday 5th June –  Meet at 10am opposite a property called Garden Croft in the village of Ickleford. I may advise another parking spot should we have had a lot of rain. This is a 4.5 mile walk with no hills or stiles. We start our walk from here to loop around some fields and hedgerows before entering Oughton Common and Nature Reserve. The paths following the river are good and usually mud free. We will cross the Common which leads onto a lane with some nice views across the countryside. We then enter a wood, the paths are easy to follow though they are criss crossed with exposed roots and tree stumps. (There is another track running alongside, outside the woods away from the river if you don’t feel comfortable negotiating the roots but not so pretty.) We return to the Common and then a short walk down Westmill Lane back to the cars. The Plume of Feathers in the village is open on Mondays for refreshment. Postcode: SG5 3RN. LEADER: Joyce. Monday 5th June – The Leisurely Strollers – Meet at 10am in the car park at the Danish Camp (if open- if not park on the road)  Walk along the river at the Danish camp. Sunday 11th June – Meet at 10am  at Priory Country Park for an easy 5 mile walk round the lake and then along the cycle track to Bedford Embankment, down the left of the River Ouse to Prebend Street bridge then back on the others side of the river.  Flat walking with mainly good paths.   The Cloverdale cafe is open for drinks when we return and there are toilet facilities.  Postcode: MK41 9DJ. REMINDER for all those booked – Sunday 11th June – Summer Barbecue at the Air Cadets premises in Shortstown, Bedford. There is a nominal charge of £2.50 per person to cover the costs of the burgers and includes a donation to the Air Cadets. We will then be asking people to provide salads and desserts. [More to follow on this] There will be walk which will begin at 1.00 pm for about an hour, alternatively you can just arrive for the barbecue at 2.00 pm. You will have to bring along chairs to sit on. Should the weather be rainy etc, there is a room available for us to be inside. There are toilets are on site. Monday 12th June – The Leisurely Strollers – Meet at 10am at The Anchor, Great Barford for a walk from  Great Barford to Blunham and back (1 stile) Please park on the road. Sunday 18th June – Meet at 10am at Ridgmont Station car park on the opposite side of the railway line from the Tea Room.  From the station the route goes uphill towards Ridgmont Church and then into Woburn Park.  The return is via Husborne Crawley.  The walk is six miles and there are no stiles.  Postcode: MK43 0XP  LEADER:  Michael.  Mob: 07505 731114.  

Monday 19th June – Meet at 10am at the recreation ground Olney. Approximately 4 miles crossing the meadow then up towards Clifton Reynes, through the village returning along the river to the recreation ground. Monday 19th June – The Leisurely Strollers – Meet at 10am on the green in front of Eaton Socon Church for a walk to St Neots and back.  Refreshments in the cafe in the big car park bythe bridge, Eaton Ford side of the river at approx 11.am  Everyone welcome to join us for refreshments. Sunday 25th June – Meet at 10am –  LEADERS: Carmel & Tim  – Walk details TBC

Monday 26th June – Meet at 10am in the car park behind the Methodist Church, 82, Whitworth Way, Wilstead. This is a 5 mile walk along the edge of Wilstead Wood, up a moderate hill to enjoy the stunning views across the valley, then along the ridge towards Haynes Turn. We then return down hill on a section of the John Bunyan Trail, following field margins to make our way back to the Church. There are no stiles but several gates. Much of the walk will be on farmland so any dogs will need to be kept on a lead due to the proximity of grazing sheep. No refreshment or toilet facilities on this walk. Postcode: MK45 3DY.
