Bedford Rambling Club based in North Bedfordshire.
We’re a small, friendly and sociable walking group who meet on Sunday and Monday mornings for 2-3 hour circular walks around Bedfordshire & the surrounding area.
Established in 1938 to “encourage a love of the open air, to provide for the healthy enjoyment of leisure, to assist in the preservation of the amenities of the countryside, and to promote social and international friendship.” Still valid today.
We announce with sadness the recent passing of one of our older members, Sybil Davis. Sybil had been a member since the early 1970’s and will long be remembered for the support she gave to the Club as a leader of rambles and as a Committee Member.
Sybil had been a strong walker and a member of the Long Distance Walkers Association as well as other local walking clubs. Always cheerful and willing to participate in the activities of the Club, Sybil will be greatly missed. Despite her illness in later years, which curtailed her ability to ramble, Sybil was able to share her experiences with members of the Club and to pass on her love of the great outdoors and her many memories of enjoyable days spent rambling.
Sunday Walks. We meet at 10.00 on Sunday mornings for a 5-6 mile walk, where possible sharing cars to the start. Walking is at a leisurely pace with lots of chatting going on! We bring a drink and snack with us for a half way stop but sometimes there’s somewhere to call in and have a coffee. It’s a nice way to start a Sunday especially after a busy week, we’re usually back early afternoon. See Programme
Monday walks. Again meeting at 10.00. These are generally a little less energetic walks of 4-5 miles aiming to finish around 12.00. We usually start and finish at a pub or cafe so there is the option of a drink and chat afterwards. See Programme
We also hold a variety of social events throughout the year.
The Club is affiliated to the Ramblers association and HF Holidays and we normally arrange go away for a walking holiday to one of their country houses once a year.
We are always looking for new members and non members are always welcome to join us.
Just turn up on the day for a walk (no charge) or for further information please Contact us.
If you like what you see and want to join the club the annual membership is only £7.00 per individual or £10.00 per household (£6.00 and £8.00 for seniors). This is payable on joining and renewable every October.
