Sunday 2nd January – Meet at 10am  at Marston Vale Forest Centre, Marston Moretaine. This is a 5 mile walk around Stewartby lake and the parklands.  Mainly good paths but there may be a bit of mud.  Parking in the car park costs £2 for 3 hours, you can pay by cash or card.  This should give us enough time for a walk and a coffee at the end for those who want to stay.  Postcode: MK43 0PS.  LEADER: Sue C. Monday 3rd  January – Meet at 10am  – Park at the far end of car park at the Flying Horse Pub, Clophill where refreshments are available. Short Walk of 3.5 miles across undulating fields and meadows. Some country lane walking, though very few cars pass. No stiles, one steep hill and a few steep steps. As it’s a short walk there can be plenty of rest stops if needed. Sunday 9th January – Meet at 10am  at Swineshead Church. A  5 mile walk walk mainly along green lanes and through woods- we will walk down Sandye lane and then the green lane to Swineshead wood, around Swineshead wood, along the green lane to Spanoak wood, around Spanoak wood, back along the green lane to Swineshead wood and take a different path  to a public footpath across fields returning to the other end of Swineshead village, then back through the village to the church.  4 gates, no stiles, Green lane and woods may be muddy in places.  Little bit of an incline but nothing very steep. Monday 10th  January – Meet at 10am – at The Royal George (closed) Stagsden High Street.Plenty of on road parking. Little through traffic. A pleasant 4.8 mile walk, affording elevated views across open country side. Some sections walking along side woods. Slightly muddy in places as always weather dependent.  There are 1 x gate, 3 x sets of steps, 0 stiles, 1 x short slope, 1 x 2/3 of a mile section walking on a little used country back road, 1 x 0.4 mile long slope rising 25 metres, 1 x section of the Bedfordshire Golf course to cross, 1 x busy road to cross (A428) good visibility each way.  Postcode: MK43 8SG.  LEADER: Nigel. Sunday 16th January – Meet at 10am – This 6 mile walk is around Little Staughton. Starting from Little Staughton church we walk on high ground  with good views and field walking towards Staughton Moor, then across fields through a wood circling back  with good views to an ancient green lane then back across fields to the village. Little Staughton church is in sight for most of the walk. It is going to be muddy due to the amount of rain we have had.  A small bridge to cross  and uneven through the woods and down the green lane. Postcode MK44 2BL.  LEADER: Linda. Mob:07733 343702

Monday 17th January – Meet at 10am – Starting from The Wheatsheaf 42, Church Street, Tempsford Church End (plenty of safe parking outside on the road) a gentle 4 mile stroll along the River Ivel down to Blunham stopping off for refreshments and a comfort break at the village hall. Returning on the opposite side of the river. Several gates but no stiles. Unfortunately, The Wheatsheaf is closed on Mondays. Postcode: SG19 2AN. LEADER: Pat.  Mob: 07894 724856

Sunday 23rd January – Meet at 10am  by St. Peter’s Church, De Pary’s Avenue, Bedford  for a 5 mile walk into Castle Road area, following alleyways to The Embankment, touching into Russell Park, more alleyways to Kingsley Road, crossing Newnham Avenue walking alongside Newnham Allotments then following a muddy path into a quieter part of Priory Park (muddy), making our way back past Aspects into Tennyson Road, eventually ending up in Castle Road, through the Community Herb Garden and retrace our steps back to De Pary’s.  Parking free in De Pary’s Avenue on Sundays.  Postcode: MK40 2TW. Monday 24th January – Meet at 10am  at the Wilden Village Hall car park, 2 High Street, Wilden where we have permission to park.    A short 3.5 mile circular walk on paths around Wilden with pleasant views over the North Bedfordshire countryside. Walking on grass paths adjacent to farmland, mostly arable but a couple of fields where sheep graze so any dogs will need to be kept on a lead. No hills but a couple of stiles to be navigated and a metal bar gate to be climbed. A seasonal amount of mud should be expected.  Postcode: MK44 2PB. LEADER: Jonathan. Mob: 07421 817583

Wednesday 26th January –   10:00 am –   The Wednesday Wobblers are meeting at Priory Country Park, Bedford  for a short stroll then coffee.  If any ex-ramblers would like to join us, you are very welcome.  Weather permitting.

Sunday 30th January – Meet at 10am.  Starting from the free Visitor Centre car park, Paxton Pits Nature Reserve, High St, Little Paxton.   About 5 miles through a rich mosaic of wildlife habitats, with beautiful lakes, riverside, meadow, reed beds, scrub and woodland. A mixture of hard surfaces, paths and some potentially muddy tracks. No hills or stiles. Toilets and cafe at the start, end and possibly the middle of the walk.  Postcode: PE19 6ET. Monday 31st January – Meet at 10am at the free car park at Belfry Court, Sandy (off the High Street almost opposite the Church)  I will be leading the Sir William Peel walk from Sandy, to the RSPB and back along Stratford Road. This is a walk of 4.8 miles, but can be shortened if necessary.  It is sandy soil underfoot, little mud unless very heavy rain. One short steep climb, one gradual climb, and two steepish down hill sections, some tarmac paths in town. Suggest bring walking poles if you have them for the inclines.  Lovely varied heath land and woods across RSPB site, Look out for George, the peacock, and groups of snowdrops on the verge along Stratford Road. February 2022

Sunday 6th February – Meet at 10am – Park in Ridgmont High Street near to All Saints Church. From the Church the walk goes down to Ridgmont railway station, and then up to Husborne Crawley and Woburn Park.  It is possible that we could see a white wallaby, a few elephants and a couple of stone lions before we return to All Saints Church.  The walk is about 5.5 miles, and there are no stiles. Monday 7th February – Meet at 10am –at the West Car Park, Woburn Road, Ampthill (turn right off the B530 just before the junction with the A507).  Ampthill Park to Millbrook church and back, then around Cooper’s Hill. This is a 4-4.5 mile figure of 8 walk through Ampthill Park and the surrounding area. Lovely countryside with spectacular views. Easy walking on mainly well drained land, a few gates but no stiles. Sunday 13th February – Meet at 10am at Harrold Country Park car park . A 4.5 mile walk beginning and ending in Harrold Country Park, then along a quiet lane, a green lane and through woods and fields, returning to Harrold Country Park where there is a cafe and picnic benches.  6 gates, no stiles, May be muddy in places. A bit of an incline to begin with. We will pass The Bell at Odell and Harrold nearby has a village shop (Co-op) and more than one pub.

Monday 14th February – Meet at 10am  at The Crown,  2, High Street, Henlow  (We do have permission to park so disregard the many penalty notices.) Refreshments will be available after the walk which is 4.5 miles. No hills or stiles, there is a busy road to cross at the beginning of the walk but we’re able to  avoid it for our return. We make our way along good trails through  open countryside once across the road. Returning by following paths dotted with snowdrops through trees lining the river Hiz then looping around Henlow lakes with hopefully a fine display of snowdrops in the woodland. Postcode: SG16 6BS. Sunday 20th February – Meet at 10am  at Grafham Village shop, Brampton Road, Grafham  It is 5.5 miles and the route goes to Hill Farm then on Three Shires Way for a short distance to the old railway line. Then to Savages Creek and back by the water and elephant grass to Marlow Exhibition Centre for a toilet and refreshments stop. We then walk back to Grafham via the old road. Monday 21st February – WALK BELOW CANCELLED DUE TO STORM. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Meet at 10am at The Cross Keys (Tre Fratelli) Tithe Road, Wood End Lane, Kempston. Permission has been granted to use the Tri Fratelli car park but spaces are limited (the restaurant is closed Mondays) . Otherwise, sensible parking Wood End Lane next to the Spinney. The ramble is about 3.5 miles starting with a 10 minute walk along a quiet road. Then a gradual climb into the countryside with some wonderful views ending up with a walk through Kempston Wood. Wednesday 23rd February –  10:00 am.  The Wednesday Wobblers are meeting at Moggerhanger Park  for a short stroll through woodland to (hopefully) see snowdrops, then coffee at the Orchard Tearoom.  If any ex-ramblers would like to join us, you are very welcome.  Weather permitting. Sunday 27th February – Meet at 10am  in Ridgmont Station car park on the opposite side of the railway line from the Tea Room.  The walk is about 5 miles, and has two stiles.  From the station the route goes steadily uphill towards Lidlington.  From the top of the hill you can see Lidlington and the Lake and there are views towards Cranfield, Marston Vale  and in the distance Bedford and the Cardington Hangers.  On the way back you can view the old brickworks before returning to the Station Tea Room for some refreshment. Monday 28th February –   Meet at 10am in Castle Gardens, Kimbolton.  Unfortunately parking is limited to 30 minutes in the High Street during the week.  There is some parking in Castle Gardens.  Would those with unlimited energy please drive on to Newtown Lane, off the B660 to Catworth, where there is about 90 yards of roadside parking, leaving a walk of 300 – 400 yards back to the start.  The route takes an uphill track to Park Farm and along the ridge to the B660.  From there, across to a bridleway leading down to Stonely, and back to the start.  Distance is 4.5 miles and total height gained is about 160 ft.  Good views and some magnificent trees at Stonely and in Kimbolton churchyard.  The pub is closed on Mondays but there are two small cafes some distance back along the High Street.  We may have to split the group and use both.  Postcode: PE28 0HP.  LEADER:  Geoff.  Mob: 07962 580716. 

 

March 2022

Sunday 6th March – Meet at 10am at Mowsbury Park, Kimbolton Road Car Park.  A 5 mile walk through Woodlands Park and North Brickhill Country Park.  An easy walk on paths that are very muddy in places where it is also uneven under foot, no stiles or gates, a bit of an incline in one area. Toilet and cafe near Wentworth Drive end of park.  Postcode:  MK41 8AH. Sunday 13th March – Meet at 10am at Cople church  for a 5.8 mile walk. This is an easy walk, with no stiles or gates and relatively mud free. Some road walking on quiet lanes, on the cycle path from Danish camp towards Bedford following the river, and then coming back into Cople following the brook. Monday 14th March – Meet at 10am at Great Barford Village Green opposite the Anchor MK44 3LF.  The pub is open on Mondays serving drinks and food and they have two parking areas for those visiting the pub after the walk. There is also roadside parking alongside the church and a further small car park between the church and Woodpecker Close. The walk crosses the bridge at the weir then follows the river under the main bridge and left before crossing the Willington road.  We’ll head across farmland to Route 51, accessed over a stile.  The walk follows the tarmacked path to the lock and weir at Willington.  Here we re-join the river and follow it back to Great Barford. About 3.5-4 miles.  As with all walks at this time of year there will be mud in varying degrees! LEADER Jennie 07852 852629

images (4)Thursday 17th March 11.00 am.  Ten pin Bowling at Eat N Bowl St Neots. £3.50 per game. We have now booked this for 17 people but may be able to take a few more. Sunday 20th March – Meet at 10am at the Polhill Arms, Wilden Road, Renhold.  This is a 5.5 mile walk along the track running parallel to Norse Road, through the Polhill Estate  to Top End Renhold.  We then follow good tracks to Renhold woods and then past the church back to the track to the pub.  There are 6 stiles, (they have put an extra one in since the last time I walked this!) 4 of which are close together, there is very little mud.  The pub has given us permission to park in the overflow car park so drive through the gate at the end of the car park and park on the grass.  The pub will welcome us in for a coffee or drink at the end of the walk.  Postcode: MK41 0JP.  LEADER: Sue C.  Mob: 07788 954819

Monday 21st March –  Meet at 10am starting from the Village Hall, High Street, Roxton (safe parking along the High St. but be considerate) a gentle 3.5 mile stroll down to Roxton Lock taking a look where the Great Ouse and the River Ivel converge. Returning along the river, possibly some wildlife. No stiles, no gates and no major slopes. Most of the village is closed on Mondays but Roxton Garden Centre is but a short drive away. Sunday 27th March  – Meet at 10am at Mowsbury Park (Kimbolton Road) Car Park. This is a 4.5 mile circular walk following paths north of Brickhill and heading out towards Twinwoods before returning. Straightforward walking, with no stiles, mostly on grass paths adjacent to arable farmland with views over the North Bedfordshire countryside. Although we may encounter a few small patches of mud the recent good weather has dried out the ground and conditions underfoot are much improved from recent weeks.  Postcode: MK41 8AH. Monday 28th March –  Meet at 10am near the church, Park Road,  Melchbourne.  The 4.7 mile walk takes us through Hillards Plantation, beside Penn Wood, through Worley’s Wood and beside Lady Wood and Coppice Wood.  We see Melchbourne House beyond its lake before returning by fields to the village.  The Fox and Hounds at Riseley is open on Mondays for anyone wanting a post-walk drink.    Postcode: MK44 1BB.   LEADER:  Geoff.  Mob: 07962 580716.

Sunday 3rd April – Meet at 10am – Park in Ridgmont High Street near to All Saints Church.  This is a varied walk, which includes part of the Woburn Abbey Deer Park and the chances of seeing more exotic animals on the fringes of the Safari Park.  The second half covers typical Bedfordshire farmscape plus the ruins of Segenhoe Church.  The walk is about 5 miles, and has one stile. Monday 4th April – Meet 10.00 at Pavenham Village Hall, Bedford Road, Pavenham. We have permission to use the Village Hall car park. A 4 mile circular walk on paths around the picturesque village of Pavenham with pleasant views of the surrounding countryside. Straightforward walking on grass paths with a few gentle slopes but no stiles. Sunday 10th April – Meet at 10am –  A easy, circular 6 mile walk from Blunham. Walking towards Great Barford, along the River Ouse, to Roxton weir (bridge now open)!, to Tempsford and back to Blunham.  There is one stile at Ouse farm.  Post code: MK44 3NW.  LEADER:  Brenda Mob: 07934 240325

Monday 11th April – Meet at 10am in Castle Gardens, off Thrapston Road, Kimbolton.  Parking is limited so the livelier people could go past Castle Gardens and turn right onto the B660, then into Newtown Lane, park and walk back.  This is a different route to last time, but again 4.7 miles.  We leave by the recreation ground and go through Honeyhill Wood on a steady uphill gradient, turning left on a track and descending to Grange Farm.  We then climb Hungry Hill on a long cross-field path and return through Kimbolton School grounds, arriving at the High Street opposite Oliver’s Tea Rooms.  Post code:  PE28 0HN.    Leader:  Geoff.  Mobile:  07962 580716.

Sunday 17th April (Easter Sunday) – Meet at 10am at the War Memorial Main Road, Biddenham. Park on the road or in the Three Tuns car park if you plan to have a drink there afterwards.  A gentle flat walk on largely firm surfaces with minimal mud and no stiles. We visit Biddenham Village Pond before following the River Great Ouse, branching off opposite Box End Water Park, making our way through Great Denham, around the Country Park and back up to Biddenham. Monday 18th April (Easter Monday) – Meet at 10am   – Starting from Mowsbury Park car park off Wentworth Drive this will be a 4-5 mile walk through Putnoe Woods and up towards Ravensden before circling back via Ravensden Brook. Much of the walk will be on farmland so any dogs will need to be kept on a lead due to the proximity of grazing sheep. There is one, quite lengthy moderate hill but no stiles. Sunday 24th April – Meet at 10am at Carlton Village Hall where parking is available.  A walk mainly through fields along footpaths around the perimeter of Carlton village. A small amount of road walking. Distance 4.5 miles. Two stiles, four gates. We will leave Carlton on a footpath on the Pavenham road and go past Chellington church and back down past Harrold bridge and through Carlton allotments. Teas, coffees etc are available at Emmaus. Monday 25th April – Meet at 10am  at Lidlington, Folly Wood field. ( Through  the gate which I’m planning to unlock at 9.40am) Broughton End Lane Lidlington.  This is a 4.5 mile walk with no stiles but 2 busy roads.  There are fine views across the countryside.  We begin our walk crossing into another field across the road a little further on. There we follow fine trails into Jackdoor Hill around the golf course through Blackfields plantation eventually crossing a busy road into Moneypot Hill , another pretty woodland with fine views as we emerge following trails alongside flowering rapeseed. Another busy road to cross then making our way back towards Folly field via grand viewing points over Lidlington. (Your cars will be locked in the field at 10 am when we leave and can’t be accessed until we return from our walk hopefully around 12 mid-day). May 2022

Sunday 1st May – Meet at 10am at Houghton Conquest Park near the Chapel in Rectory Lane.    The walk is about four miles, but does include an uphill part from the ‘slough of despond’ to the ‘house beautiful’.  The return route goes through ancient woodland and across meadows rich in wild flowers.  There are no stiles.  Postcode: MK45 3LD.  LEADER: Michael  Mob: 07505 731114

Monday 2nd May (Bank Holiday) – Meet at 10am  at the Addison Park, Kempston. A circular walk to Kempston Mill and back. An easy, flat 4.5 mile walk following the river then back on the other side. Park in top car park in Addison Park, Bedford Road, Kempston, Bedford.  (Take the roadway off Hillgrounds to the Addison Center then keep going to the car park at the end on the right. )  Postcode: MK42 8PN. Sunday 8th May –   Meet at 10am  Almost circular walk from Elstow to Wilstead and back.   6 miles partly following the John Bunyan trail along field margins and tracks.  There is one field with sheep in it and also some walking down quiet lanes.   No stiles just kissing gates. Monday 9th May – Meet at 10am at The Prince of Wales public house, Northampton Road, Bromham. Parking is available in the car park  or on adjacent roads. If required the pub facilities will be available before the walk. An enjoyable 5 mile walk to the west of Bromham passing alongside Hanger Wood and onto Stagsden village, past St Leonard’s Church and then back via Bury End and White’s wood. There are 4 gates and 2 busy roads to cross. When checking the route there was little mud. There are a few gradual slopes both up and down though not too demanding. If you would like to enjoy a pub lunch after the walk, Eamon and the team have requested this be recorded with your name on a sheet before the walk. Sunday 15th May – Meet at 10am – at Old Warden Village Hall rear car park (Old Warden committee have given permission to use the car park – maintenance donation gratefully accepted). This walk is just over 6 miles and we will pass two churches – St Lawrence’s at Old Warden & St Mary’s at Northill and two public houses – Hare & Hounds, Old Warden, and The Crown, Northill to cater for all tastes. The walk is an easy  shortened version of the Old Warden circular walk (Old Warden – Northill – Ickwell) and avoids the Shuttleworth Estate and Warden Warren Woods. Monday 16th May – – Meet at 10am – at  The Three Fyshes, Turvey. Permission has been granted to use the car park filling from the top end wherever possible. This will be a 4 mile walk through the Abbey Park, then a gradual climb up to the old railway line onto farmland towards Devil’s Spinney. Just gates and a few tree roots to negotiate. Sunday 22nd May – Meet at 10am – Park at Blunham church for this  6 mile walk along the footpath to Sandy. Then winding our way through the town centre to pick up the river Ivel that will take us back to Blunham. It’s very flat with no stiles.  Postcode: MK44 3NJ (as close as I can get) LEADER: Brenda. Monday 23rd May – Meet at 10am  at The Greyhound pub car park 68, Northwood End Road Haynes Bedford. The pub is open for refreshments at 12pm. We start our 3.7 mile walk  down through meadows with views over the countryside towards Chicksands woods. At Appley corner we join the John Bunyan trail which has a hard surface eventually turning into Rowney Woods where we make a gradual ascent along good wide tracks with plenty of rest stops if required. Sunday 29th May – Meet at 10am – at The Three Fyshes Pub car park, Turvey. Permission has been granted to use the pub car park and we have been requested that we start parking from the top end of the car park wherever possible. This will be a relatively easy 6 mile circular walk leading through the Abbey Park where we then pass under the old disused railway line followed by a gradual climb up into the countryside, weather permitting we will see some lovely uninterrupted countryside views along the walk and where we will come across a couple gradual slopes (up and down) No stiles to negotiate, just a few kissing gates and some caked mud with a few exposed tree roots to be aware of. There is some walking along quiet country roads towards the end of the walk before we drop back onto pasture for the final leg. Plenty of rest stops along the way if required and no sheep or cows were noted during the latest recce. Monday 30th May – Meet at 10am  at  The Five Bells, Northill  Road, Cople, (Opp. All Saints Church) Parking permission has been granted to use the car park and the pub will open for us, serving teas & Coffees after 12.00hrs.. A gentle 4 mile walk over farmland and some beautiful countryside including a wildflower meadow. Sunday 5th June – Meet at 10am  at Swineshead church, Swineshead. A 5 mile walk mainly along green lanes and through woods- we will walk down Sandye lane and then the green lane to Swineshead wood, around Swineshead wood, along the green lane to Spanoak wood, around Spanoak wood. We are hoping the bird song will be loud in Spanoak wood at this time of year. Then we head back along the green lane to Swineshead wood and take a different path through Swineshead wood to a public footpath across fields, returning to the other end of Swineshead village, then back through the village to the church. 4 gates, no stiles, Green lane and woods may be slightly muddy in places. Monday 13th June – Meet at 10.00 at Shefford car park for a 4.5 mile walk.   From the car park we turn right and head for New Street. We then walk through an housing estate, across a foot bridge and go on the underpass. The walk takes us out into the countryside with a gradual climb into the countryside where we will get excellent views of the local area. Sunday 19th June – Meet at 10am –  at the Mill Theatre car park (please park at the far end away from the  theatre building) 103 Mill Road, Sharnbrook. This 5.1 mile circular walk passes through part of this pretty village before walking by the old windmill and heading for the lovely Felmersham nature reserve with its tranquil lakes and wildlife. On to Felmersham river bridge then along the banks of the River Great Ouse. A trip through the Pinchmill Islands before heading back to the start across open countryside and meadows. Easy walking with a few gates, a couple of stiles and some steps over the bridges. Monday 20th June – Meet at 10am  at the Royal George, Stevington.   Both village pubs are closed on a Monday lunch time at the moment, however both are happy for us to use their car parks. This is a 5 mile walk from Stevington through Pictshill estate.  We start walking from the Royal George eventually cutting across fields with a slight incline towards the Pictshill estate. Here we enter the park where we should see Highland cattle, large herds of different deer, Water buffalo and lama. We head out of park onto Turvey road quickly returning to the other side of park via some steps to a disused railway track with more views over the park. There is another climb up some steep steps into the woods & along a ridge with fine views towards Pavenham and Stevington windmill. There are no stiles. Monday 27th June –  Meet at 10am at the Maulden Wood car park opposite the Greensand Trust building. (north bound lay-by on the A6). An enjoyable 3.5 mile walk through the tranquil Maulden Woods and on to St. Mary the Virgin Church, Maulden. Affording views across open country side. There are several gates but no stiles. Two sets of fairly steep steps, one with a handrail. One quite steep long incline. When checking the route there was a little mud. Monday 4th July –  Meet at 10am at The Bedford Arms car park, Souldrop. The pub does not open until 4pm but we have permission to use the car park. A 4.5 mile circular walk starting through All Saints churchyard walking through farmland, some with sheep, woodlands and quiet roads through the Colworth Estate before returning along the ancient Forty Foot track to Souldrop. Sunday 10th July. Meet at 10am   – Starting from Mowsbury Park car park off Wentworth Drive this will be a 4-5 mile walk through Putnoe Woods and up towards Ravensden before circling back via Ravensden Brook. Much of the walk will be on farmland so any dogs will need to be kept on a lead due to the proximity of grazing sheep. There is one, quite lengthy moderate hill but no stiles. Monday 11th July – Meet at 10am at the Fox and Hounds, Riseley, where we have permission to use the car park.  The pub is open on Mondays so please go in for a drink or lunch. The walk is 4.7 miles and uses grass fields, tracks and arable field edges, passing Bedford Autodrome, Keysoepark Wood and Riseley church.  A short stretch of bridleway was somewhat overgrown, but quite easily passable, when the recce was done. Sunday 24th July – Meet at 10am – A 6 mile walk from Rowney Warren car park through Chicksands wood and past the MOD.  This is an undulating walk with a couple of larger hills, one right at the end.  Some areas are quite overgrown with grass but no nettles or brambles. Monday 25th July – Meet at 10am – Sharpenhoe clappers made easy.  This walk is just under 4 miles. No steep climbs or descents. No Stiles. Meet at The Chequers pub car park ( open for refreshments at 12.00)  171, Sharpenhoe Road Streatly. Luton. We begin from the pub walking through the streets towards fields & the Moleskin & Markham hills across to The Clappers already seeing fine views. We’ll do a loop around the ridge through woods & meadows with spectacular views on either side, we then zigzag our way down the Smithcombe hills, hardly aware of any descent, back to the Chequers. There is also a small free car park on your immediate right as you turn off Luton Road into the Streatly turn, a 5 min walk to the pub from here. Sunday 31st July – Meet at 10am  in Ridgmont Station car park on the opposite side of the railway line from the Tea Room.  The walk is about 5 miles, and has two stiles.  From the station the route goes steadily uphill towards Lidlington.  From the top of the hill you can see Lidlington and the Lake and there are views towards Cranfield, Marston Vale  and in the distance Bedford and the Cardington Hangers.  On the way back you can view the old brickworks before returning to the Station Tea Room for some refreshment. Monday 1st August – Meet at 10am  in The Cross Keys  car park, 159, High Street Cranfield.  The walk is just over 3.5 miles but as it’s undulating we can afford to have catch up breaks. We begin the walk through the village along the John Bunyan trail with some fine views. This eventually leads us along a ridge flanked by meadows with more good views across the countryside. Turning into the Hulcote woods we follow undulating trails emerging onto a downward path with more views over Brogbrough.  We do have a gradual short climb back to the pub but as the path  crosses a field diagonally we still can see across the beautiful country park to distract us.  The pub will open for refreshments 12.00pm   Postcode: MK43 0JB.  LEADER: Joyce. Monday 15th August –  WALK CANCELLED DUE TO THE HOT WEATHER  Meet at 10am  at The John O’ Gaunt pub, 30, High Street Sutton, Bedford. for a 4.9 mile walk.  The pub will be closed I’m afraid, though we do have permission to use the car park as long as we leave access for the landlords car, a black BMW which may be parked there. Leaving the pub we’ll walk along the streets of this pretty village over or through the ford, if you fancy a paddle, making our way towards the spinney which skirts the golf club then across Galley hill. We then have a little bit of road walking 4/5 mins before crossing to Snow hill and onto tracks crossing fields and into Potton. Monday 22nd  August –   Meet at 10am at the Village Hall car park Great Barford.  We have permission to park here but please park at the far end in case the hall is in use.  This 4 and a bit mile walk leaves the village heading north up a gentle incline straight into fields and open countryside.  There is a short walk along a quiet lane crossing over the bypass before again walking along field edges, some narrow with grasses either side, heading towards Wilden.  Open views and lots of sky!  We head west and cross the Wilden road through more farmland before turning south and following tracks back towards the village.  We go under the bypass with a short road walk before pavements take us back to the hall. No gates or stiles, mostly flat walking but ground currently very dry with large cracks in places.  The Anchor is open for food and drinks if required. Monday 5th September –  Meet at 10am by Catworth church, Church Lane, for this 5 mile walk.  Having done the recce the walk will now go clockwise instead of anticlockwise as described earlier as it is more pleasant.  We leave Catworth on a tarmac track which leads to gently rising field margins and a farm track.  We follow the Three Shires Way for a short time then turn onto more field margins, giving good views to the north and west and eventually descending to a gap in the hedge.  Through this we take more field edges and cross the B660 into grass fields.  A slightly awkward stile brings us to the last grass field and the short road back to the starting point.  Be prepared to pause for blackberries.  Unfortunately The Racehorse pub is closed but there are the cafes in Kimbolton on the way back if desired.   Postcode: PE28 0PA.    What3Words:  mule.stupidly.tripled.   LEADER: Geoff.   Mob: 07962 580716.

Sunday 11th September –  Meet at 10am for this 6 mile walk around Little Staughton. Starting from Little Staughton church we walk on high ground around the 13th Century motte and bailey castle once owned by one Sir Adam de Creting in 1275 and where the moat still remains. Good views and field walking towards Staughton Moor, then across fields through a wood circling back again on high ground with good views to an ancient green lane then back across fields to the village. Monday 7th November – Meet at 10am by the church in Melchbourne.  Parking may be limited so please share as much as possible.  This noticeably undulating 4.8 mile walk takes us mainly on farm tracks, but across one wheat field, to Rifle Range Farm on the edge of Yelden.  Keeping our heads down we turn onto the Three Shires Way for some distance, before returning by more tracks and through Hillands Plantation.   Post code: MK44 1BB.   Leader: Geoff.   Mob: 07962 580716.

Sunday 13th November – Meet at 10am  in Ridgmont Station car park on the opposite side of the railway line from the tearoom.  The walk is about 6 miles and there are no stiles.  From the station the route goes uphill to Ridgmont, and into Woburn Park.  It is possible that some exotic animals might be seen.  The return is via Husborne Crawley.  Postcode:  MK43 0XP.  Leader:  Michael.  Mob:  07505 731114

Monday 14th November – Meet at 10am at St Mary’s Church in Everton. The walk is a 4.5 circular walk mostly over firm pathways but some slopes through a few gates but no stiles. The walk includes a visit to the site of the former RAF base at Tempsford and the memorial to those involved on ‘special duties’ during WWII. Peter Bennett will give us a brief history of the field. Sunday 20th November – Meet at 10am – Starting from Mowsbury Park (Wentworth Drive) we will head out through Putnoe woods and then up the hill towards Ravensden.  After some road walking we take the path up to the Hill Fort where there are great views across the countryside.  We then return through Mowsbury Park.  Will probably be muddy in places. Monday 21st November – Meet at 10am.  Starting from the free Visitor Centre car park, Paxton Pits Nature Reserve, High St, Little Paxton.  About 4 miles through a rich mosaic of wildlife habitats, with beautiful lakes, riverside, meadow, reed beds, scrub and woodland. Wednesday, 23rd November – Meet at 10:30 a.m. at 29 The Grove, Bedford for coffee, perhaps followed by a short stroll by the river, depending on the weather.  All are welcome to join us, especially any ex-walkers.  Postcode: MK40 3JW.

Saturday 26th November – 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm –  Annual General Meeting. – St Andrews Church hall, Kimbolton Rd. Bedford MK40 2PF. We hope to see you all there.  Agenda. Monday 28th November – Meet at 10am  a The Swan Pub, 2, Wavendon Road, Salford. Please park in the far grass overflow car park. Refreshments will be available after the walk. The walk is 5 miles along good tracks and some country roads, beginning at the 12th century church of ‘Saint Mary the Virgin.’ Making our way across meadows towards the picturesque hamlet of Aspley Hall, lots of horses and fine properties here. On towards ‘Saint Nicholas’ Hulcote church also centuries old, eventually into the lower part of Hulcote woods. We turn here continuing down an attractive track then country road (more horses) returning to Aspley Hall, then Waterhall and back into Salford. There is 1stile (in good condition) and one slight incline, plenty of easy, firm surface walking. Please note one bridle path is now rather muddy. Postcode: MK17 8BD LEADER: Joyce. Monday 5th December – Meet at 10am at the Fox and Hounds, Riseley.  The pub is now closed on Mondays but we may use the car park.  This time we loop anti-clockwise to the north-west of Riseley via Lady Wood and Worley Wood, about 5 miles on grass, concrete, farm track, field margins and a dash of mud.  There are some good viewpoints – if it doesn’t rain. Sunday 11th December – Meet at 10am  for an easy walk starting from Blunham, walking towards Great Barford. We return to Blunham using footpaths and the cycle track. Sunday 18th December – Meet at 10am at Mowsbury Park (Kimbolton Road) Car Park. This is a 4.5 mile circular walk following paths north of Brickhill and heading out towards Twinwoods before returning. Monday 19th December – Meet at 10am  at the recreation ground Olney. Approximately 4 miles crossing meadows (it will probably be muddy) and up towards Clifton Reynes, through the village returning along the river to the recreation ground.
