80th Event

Bedford Rambling Club 80th Anniversary

Bedford Rambling Club celebrated its 80 year history on Saturday 3rd November at St Andrews Church Hall, Kimbolton road, Bedford.

30

We were pleased to welcome past, present and hopefully some future members together with other guests with an interest in walking and the club. In total 80 – 90 people attended and from feedback received all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Our chairman Mr John Dixon opened proceedings. This was followed by a short address from the Mayor of Bedford Mr David Hodgson who joined in the celebrations.
Our late chairman, Mr Ron Burgess, had collected a vast amount information about the club and its activities over the years right back to its formation in 1938. With this we were were able to showcase an impressive display of events throughout the clubs history. We would like to thank Ron’s family for passing this on to us, allowing us to use it and also for coming to joining us on the day.
The Mayor was very interested in the history of the club and spent some time looking through our archive material and video displays. He chatted with members and guests and discussed both the clubs history and its future. He said he was a keen walker himself and fully appreciated the benefits of walking on health and mental well-being. He was pleased to hear that the club was not just about walking but also provided a friendly social environment for members. He was familiar with our new club website and was delighted to hear that this and other recent initiatives were proving successful in attracting new members. It seems some other walking clubs are struggling to maintain numbers.
In between the selection of games and quizzes throughout the afternoon there was a lot of reminiscing and chatting going on.
The excellent buffet with stunning home made cakes was most welcome.
As a bonus we were treated to music through the decades from the local saxophone quartet Saxophrenia with the challenge of guessing the song titles and the decade to which they belonged.

We would like to thank everyone who made this event possible, everyone for coming and hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

Here are a few photos from the day.
